Thank you for agreeing steadfastly in prayer! This week: we pray along with the first prayer of the Continential Congress, 1774

First prayer of the Continential Congress in 1774
On September 5, 1774, the First Continental Congress convened at Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia. Key figures such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, John Adams, and John Jay were among the delegates.
Prayers are timeless, resonating across generations. Today, we stand in agreement with this prayer offered 250 years ago, aligning our faith with the minister and those who prayed alongside him. We now pray it over the incoming Congress in January and the new presidential administration.
This is a summary of this historic prayer, reimagined in today’s language to inspire as we seek God’s will for our nation.
Almighty Father, RULER OVER ALL NATIONS AND PEOPLE, we seek Your mercy for these American States as we place ourselves under Your protection, trusting in Your righteousness and support. GUIDE OUR LEADERS WITH WISDOM and grant strength to those defending us. THWART THE PLANS OF OUR ENEMIES and bring peace, justice, and harmony quickly. Be present in this assembly's decisions, helping them establish a strong foundation for truth, justice, and faith. Bless and sustain us now and forever. Through Jesus Christ, our Savior, we pray. Amen.
