Valued Praying Americans,

We have preached the love of God. But we have neglected the fury of God. Both are real and necessary. And a Church that only knows one of them cannot meet this hour with the full authority available in Christ. —Brian

The Fury of God — “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory”

“Consider the goodness and severity of God” (Romans 11:22 NKJV).

The U.S. Department of War recently named their operation in Iran Operation Epic Fury.

Three thousand years ago, the Hebrew poet Asaph understood what God does when entrenched evil refuses to yield.

"He cast on them the fierceness of His anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, a band of angels of destruction among them." (Psalm 78:49, NKJV)

Asaph was describing the plagues of Egypt. The systematic dismantling of a demonic superpower that had enslaved God's people and set itself defiantly against God’s purposes.

The fury of God was not the end of the story. It was the means of release. God's people walked out of Egypt and into their destiny — a covenant, a nation, a Land of Promise.

The Fury of God is real. And it eventually targets what opposes His covenant purpose.

Julia Ward Howe understood this …

It was November 1861. The American Civil War had just begun. She visited a Union Army camp outside Washington and watched the soldiers march into the darkness.

Waking before dawn, she wrote the extraordinary Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

It was more than a patriotic anthem. She was making a Kingdom Declaration. She watched an army march out to dismantle an entrenched evil and sensed something ancient and unseen moving behind it.

The Glory. Trampling. Lightning. The Terrible Swift Sword of the Lord.

This was the language of a God whose fury moves through history with purposed zeal.

Asaph understood it in Egypt. Julia Ward Howe perceived it in 1861. The spirit and language are the same because the God is the same.

As America turns 250 this July, the Church must recover this moving forward. We have domesticated God. We have preached His love (divorced from reality)… and we have neglected His fury.

A Church that does not understand the fury of God cannot pray with authority against the principalities and powers that have set themselves against this nation's covenant foundations.

There are spiritual forces — described in Ephesians 6:12 as rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of darkness — that have worked deliberately and systematically to sever America from the belief, the worldview, and the foundations her Founders understood were indispensable to her survival.

They operate through Ideology. Through Culture sourced in Worldview. Through the Long-Arc Erosion of what was established at the headwaters of America.

They will not win if the remnant people of God stand. It’s the True Ecclesia which steers and shapes history — exercising Dominion under God’s sovereignty.

Our assignment is to stand in the breach and agree with the fury of God against every power that has set itself against what He established here.

The God who dispatched a band of angels of destruction into Egypt. The God whose terrible swift sword moved through the Civil War to break an evil the nation had tolerated too long. That God watches over this covenant nation at 250.

We can draw on America's founding prayers, covenants, documents, and early experiences as "prayer architecture" for today. Adapt the prayer language below to your prayer voice as the Holy Spirit leads.

⚔️ Agree With the Fury of God — Father, we will not soften what You have not softened. Your fury is real. Holy. Targeted. We agree with it today. We declare that every principality, every spiritual authority, every force of darkness that has worked to dismantle the covenant foundations of this nation will bow. We bring them to the judgment of the Throne of Christ.. "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age" (Ephesians 6:12, NKJV). Lord, let Your fury move. Let Your angels of destruction go where You send them.

🔥 Loose the Terrible Swift Sword — Lord, we pray the language of the Battle Hymn over this nation. Loose the fateful lightning of Your terrible swift sword against every agenda that seeks to sever America from her covenant roots. You are not domesticated. You are a warrior. You are the God who tramples out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. Trample, Lord. Let truth march.

🌊 The Church at the Source — Father, position Your people upstream. Give the Church courage to pray at the level of principalities rather than chase political solutions to spiritual problems. Raise up voices that speak to belief, to worldview, to the foundations… not just to the news cycle. Let the Body of Christ recover its prophetic assignment: an Alternative Voice shaping things. "You are the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13, NKJV). Let us function where salt is most needed. With fury and with faith.

🗽 America at 250. Covenant Held. — Lord, we seek to be clear-eyed. We see the assault. We are not naive about what is at stake. You have protected this covenant nation through revolution, civil war, depression, and world war. You have not changed your posture. Your truth is marching on. We declare that what You established here will not be dismantled. That the gates of hell will not prevail against what You have built. Do it again, Lord. March again.

🛡️ Sovereign protection of our leaders. Father, we invoke your hand of protection over leaders in our nation. Foil the plans of lawlessness.

As you pray, tune in to the Father’s heart. Resonate with the sharp prayer edges he surfaces in the Spirit. Leave “white space” in prayer for fresh prayer improvisation.
